A significant donation

Volunteers have formed an integral part of Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum since its inception in 1961. Today, more than 110 men and women volunteer their time to make a contribution to Exporail's operations. Exporail’s volunteers are faithful allies and help carry out its mission, which is to promote knowledge and understanding of Canada's railway heritage important contribution to the past, present and future development of Canadian society.

Some of our volunteers take part in Exporail’s general public activities. They handle railway operations and operate the tramway, passenger train, John Molson steam locomotive and miniature railway. They participate in demonstrations of the telegraphy and miniature trains. Volunteers serve as facilitators in the exhibition halls and aboard railway vehicles. They also lend their support to the presentation of various thematic days.

Other volunteers — who are just as important, if not more so — work in the background. For example, they help maintain the locomotives, vehicles, tracks, exterior areas and gardens. They also support the set-up of exhibitions, conduct research, restore vehicles or collection pieces, translate documents and promote Exporail.

Our volunteers also make a great contribution to the experience Exporail offers its visitors. A training program is available for certain areas of activity.
