Railway Jobs
Second cycle of elementary school, 3rd and 4th grades
Length: 90 minutes
As they visit different vehicles, the children learn about the people who made trains work: ticket collectors and streetcars, engineers and locomotives, porters and sleeping cars, conductors and cabooses. To understand their work, why not try performing one of the railwaymen’s tasks? Equipped with gloves and tools, children inspect the truck to see if it is ready to roll. Before leaving, they stop at the switch to learn the safety rules that apply near railway tracks. From mid-May to late October, children can also go for a ride on the streetcar and the miniature train.
Complementary activities
Length: 60 minutes
Let’s play! Depending on the season, children can help build a section of track or simulate the brakeman’s job – increasing their knowledge of railway vehicles and jobs.
