Train on a Long Journey
First cycle of elementary school, 1st and 2nd grades
Length: 90 minutes

This visit allows children to discover how trains work as they observe and explore railway vehicles.  First, they go inside the engine that actually pulls the train: the steam locomotive.  Then, they go into the sleeping car that was used by passengers over 100 years ago.  Through the windows, they can observe the inside of a strange car that was once used as a school and also learn how a rotary snow plow cleared the tracks in the winter.  At the end of the tour, everyone climbs into the caboose that was also the conductor’s house.  Along the way, a switching demonstration makes children aware of railway safety rules. From mid-May to late October, children can also go for a ride on the streetcar and the miniature train.
