Henry Philips fonds. - 1896-1910;[ca1960].

Biographical sketch :
Henry Philips was private secretary to Mr. Charles Melville Hays, General Manager of the Grand Trunk Railways.

Custodial history :
Fonds transferred to the Association archives in March 1970 by Mrs. Ross Hutchins, daughter of Henry Philips, and by George Ross Hutchins Jr.

Scope and content :
The fonds testifies to Henry Philips career as private secretary between 1896 and 1910, relating all the comings and goings of the two men, as well as progress on construction of railway lines. The fonds also illustrates the 1904 trip of directors and officials of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway to the west coast of Canada.
The fonds consists of notebooks, photographs and correspondence.

General note : Title based on the contents of the fonds. Fonds classified in chronological order. The documents in the fonds are in English. There are index cards for the photograph album. See the Charles Melville Hays fonds, PA-012. Certain notebooks contain stenographic notes. The fonds also contains photographs of C.M. Hays and a few illustrations of the car "Canada" which is presently located at the Canadian Railway Museum.
