Robert Legget fonds. - 1935-1992.
Biographical sketch :
Robert Frederick Legget was born in 1904 in
Liverpool of Scottish parents. He graduated from
the University of Liverpool as a civil engineer in
1925. He worked for 11 years as an engineer in
England and subsequently in Canada. He later
taught at the University of Toronto. He was also
Director of the National Research Council's
Division of Building Research for 29 years. He was
also the author of several books between 1939 and
1977, including Canals of Canada and Railroads of
Canada.
He was awarded the Order of Canada. He
died between [1992-1994].
Custodial history :
Fonds transferred to the Association archives on 27 May 1994 by his son, David Michael.
Scope and content :
The Robert Legget fonds deals with the history of
Canadian Railways from their beginnings until
1987. The fonds illustrates steam locomotives
between 1935 and 1969 as well as a few
diesel-electric locomotives. The fonds contains
manuscripts, research files, photographs and
negatives, press clippings, correspondence and
postcards.
