John Pringle Watson fonds. - 1903-1947.
Biographical sketch :
John Pringle Watson was born in 1885. He graduated
in 1906 from the University of Toronto. He served
as an apprentice with the Union Pacific Railroad
from 1904 to 1905. He was an engineer in the
motive power department of the Canadian Pacific
Railway from 02 May 1906 to 10 August 1912.
Mr
Watson was also a Lieutenant in the Corps of
Engineers during the first world war.
Custodial history :
Fonds transferred to the Association archives in October 1963 by his wife, widow of John Pringle Watson.
Scope and content :
The fonds illustrates the work of John Pringle
Watson as an industrial designer with the Canadian
Pacific Railway from 1906 to 1912. The fonds also
shows the different types of steam locomotives of
the Canadian National, the Canadian Pacific
Railway, and the Grand Trunk from 1906 to 1947.
The fonds also shown numerous family activities
and trips in Canada, including one to the
Shawinigan Falls company, as well as to the United
States.
The fonds consists of photographs and
negatives, postcards, correspondence and technical
drawings. The fonds also includes a booklet of
instructions for a soldier, dating from 1918.

400 photographs: and 800 negatives. - 0.5 m of textual material. - 700 postcards. - 4 passes.
General note :
Title based on the contents of the fonds. The
negatives are fragile and should be copied for
consultation. Some photographs are rolled. Some
negatives are classified by subject, as well as
the postcards. The documents in the fonds are in
English. There are file cards for the photographs.
