Guy Tombs fonds. - 1888-1974.
Biographical sketch :
Guy Tombs was born 22 November 1877 near Lachute
Quebec. He studied at Montreal High School and the
YMCA Schools.
He began his career as a clerk in
the Freight Department of the Canadian Pacific
Railway from 1892 to 1905. He then worked for a
variety of railway companies including the Central
Vermont Railway, the Grand Trunk Railway, and the
Canadian National until 1919. He then joined
Canadian Export Paper Co. as General Manager of
freight traffic. He next formed his own company,
Guy Tombs Limited, on 01 December 1921. He retired
in 1963. He was a member of the Mount Stephen
Club, the Montreal Club, and the Canadian Railway
Historical Association. He died in 1974.

Fonds transferred to the Association's archives by his son, L.C. Tombs and his grandson, George Tombs.
Scope and content :
The Guy Tombs fonds illustrates the variety of
railway passes issued by the various railway
companies in Canada and the United States between
1888 and 1958. Some passes came from employees or
colleagues, such as those of Soper, Coleman and
Harris. The fonds also deals with steam
locomotives of the Grand Trunk Railway at the
beginning of the 20th century. The fonds includes
railway passes, maps and annual reports from the
Railway Commissioners for Canada (1905-1925).

Title based on the name of the donor. The passes are classified. The documents in the fonds are in English. The annual reports have been filed in the library. The passes were originally in annotated envelopes. Maps not classified and filed separately.
