Joseph Haynes fonds. - 1876-1926.

Biographical sketch :
Joseph Haynes was born 19 March 1853 and studied at the Collège Masson de Terrebonne. He began to work as an architect from June 1875. He built many buildings in Montreal. Mr. Haynes was also one of the founders of the École Polytechnique de Montréal, where he was a professor from June 1875 until 1927.
He was also chief engineer of the railway that circles Montreal Island and he designed the electric railway that traverses Montreal. He died in the spring of 1927.
Member of the Montreal district Chamber of Commerce.

Scope and content :
The fonds deals with railway-related courses given by Joseph Haynes at the École Polytechnique de Montréal between 1908 and 1926. The fonds consists of notebooks and a few technical drawings.
