Charles Bowman fonds. - [ca1940] ? 1976.
Biographical sketch :
Charles William Robertson Bowman was a
photographer. He was much interested in railways
and especially steam locomotives. His photographs
are found in many publications, including Train,
Railway Magazine, and Railway World, as well as
many books. He died suddenly in September 1974.
Custodial history :
Fonds transferred to the Association archives in 1979 by Mr. Bowman's estate.
Scope and content :
The Charles Bowman fonds deals mainly with steam
locomotives around the world, but principally in
England, Canada and the United States. The fonds
also deals with all forms of rail transport from
narrow gauge to tramways, along with miniature
trains. The fonds consists mainly of black and
white photographs, colour slides, correspondence,
films, sound recordings, brochures, maps and a
manuscript.

0.3 m of textual materials. About 3000 photographs: also negatives. - 2000 photographs: slides. - 13 films: super-8 home movies. - 35 sound items: sound recordings, home and commercial.

Title based on the contents of the fonds. The slides are filed chronologically. The documents in the fonds are in English. There are notes describing the contents of the sound recordings. All the photographs and slides are identified.
